Our most recent Wise Women Wednesday featured Certified Financial Planner and Certified Divorce Financial Analyst, Kristine Davenport. Kristine told us about the importance of taking stock in your situation and giving yourself a moment to really understand where you are, and what your needs are before making any big decisions. The top take-aways from her presentation were:
“It’s okay.” You’re going to handle this.
Something big has just happened in your life, whether it was happy or tragic, you are going to make the right decisions because you have the tools necessary to make the next move confidently.
Take a moment to determine what you have and what your real needs are for right now
Don’t make big purchases or sales
Give yourself time to determine what is necessary instead of what feels immediate right now.
Build a Team
Find people who think the way you do and make you feel comfortable and confident in making decisions for your future. Understand the purposes of the different professionals who can bring value to your team: a CPA, an Attorney, a Financial Advisor or Planner, and maybe a Counselor. Start with a few names for each and decide if they are a fit for you and ask for referrals from one you trust, they have strong networks that work together often.
Give yourself Credit
You’re coming through a big change, and you’ve done it well. Take a moment to pat yourself on the back.
